Ahmedabad plane crash LIVE updates: The former chief minister of Gujarat was among those who perished in the Air India flight that was en route to London, which crashed in a neighborhood near Ahmedabad Airport shortly after its departure on Thursday afternoon. While one survivor has been located, the final official count of fatalities is still pending.

Ahmedabad plane crash LIVE: An Air India flight, destined for London, went down in a locality just moments after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport on Thursday afternoon, marking one of the most devastating aviation disasters in India’s history. Among the 242 individuals on board, including passengers and crew, was former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, who has been confirmed deceased in the incident. The BJP's Gujarat chief has verified the passing of the former chief minister to the media.


As rescue efforts are ongoing, a British citizen - Vishwash Kumar Ramesh has been identified as a survivor of the crash. The 40-year-old, seated in 11A, was found limping post-crash and was assisted by local residents.

The aircraft, on its way to London, crashed in a residential area just five minutes after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport in Gujarat. Footage of the crash has been shared on social media, depicting thick plumes of dark smoke rising into the sky. Of the 242 individuals on board, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were British, seven were Portuguese, and one was Canadian.
